Coronation Street rises to 7.5m with live episode build-up

Coronation Street bagged its best rating in over two months last night (September 21) with the build-up to the live episode, overnight figures show.

Corrie was easily the most-watched programme of the day, bringing in 7.31m (36.2%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 115k (0.5%) on +1 as Callum gave the Platt family one final demand for the £20,000 he needs. The audience increased to 7.52m (34.9%) at 8.30pm and 129k (0.6%) on +1 as Sarah lured Callum back to the Platt house with a plan in mind.

The Weatherfield soap's 8.30pm figure was its highest since Deirdre Barlow's funeral on July 13.

EastEnders attracted 6.23m (29.4%) at 8pm on BBC One as Lauren turned her back on Max and Charlie left Walford without Matthew. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 207k (1.3%) at 10pm.

Emmerdale rose to 6m (33.2%) at 7pm on ITV and 155k (0.7%) on +1 as Andy realised that Aaron could be implicated in Katie's death.

Hollyoaks interested 833k (4.9%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 133k (0.7%) on +1 with the fallout from Sinead's abrupt exit, while E4's first look topped the multichannels with its highest figure since July 20 as 689k (3.8%) tuned in at 7pm (+1: 75k / 0.4%).

Neighbours appealed to 746k (11.0%) at 1.45pm and 758k (5.5%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Brad moved out of the Willis family home.

Doctors aired to 1.49m (22.1%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Al and Howard met up with a potential investor.

Home and Away claimed its best teatime figure since April 13 as Josh's scary encounter was seen by 640k (3.9%) at 6pm. The lunchtime screening had 222k (3.2%) at 1.15pm, while 5*'s first look had 368k (2.2%) at 6.30pm.
