Coronation Street brings in 6.7m for Callum's arrest

Coronation Street remained ahead in the soap ratings on Thursday (September 17) as the tables started to turn on Callum, overnight figures show.

Corrie was the most-watched programme of the day, bringing in 6.74m (33.9%) at 8pm on ITV and 279k (1.4%) on +1 as Callum was arrested after Bethany finally withdrew the false alibi she had given him for Jason's attack. This was the show's best Thursday performance since introducing the bonus airings over the summer.

Emmerdale remained steady with its latest hour-long episode, averaging 5.55m (29.9%) from 7pm on ITV and 180k (0.9%) on +1 as Chrissie faced court over the helicopter crash.

EastEnders once again dipped below the 5 million mark as it went head-to-head with Emmerdale, claiming 4.51m (22.8%) at 7.30pm on BBC One with Abi's outburst at Max's trial.

The latest soap clash saw Emmerdale's audience remain stable throughout the hour, only dipping to 5.52m (28.0%) during the 30-minute head-to-head period itself from 7.30pm.

BBC Three's repeat screening of EastEnders added 538k (3.4%) at 10pm.

Hollyoaks aired to 744k (4.6%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as a special flashback episode delved into the day of Lisa's kidnapping in 2001 (+1: 42k / 0.2%). E4's first look rose to its best figure in over a fortnight as 637k (3.7%) tuned in for Stephanie Davis's final episode as Sinead at 7pm (+1: 69k / 0.3%).

Doctors interested 1.34m (23.0%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Zara announced plans to take a year-long break.

Neighbours appealed to 690k (11.8%) at 1.45pm and 602k (4.8%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Russell was confronted over his angry behaviour.

Home and Away managed 183k (3.0%) at 1.15pm and 479k (3.3%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look followed with 336k (2.1%) at 6.30pm.
