Coronation Street stayed on top of the ratings on Friday (August 28) as bad boy Callum met his match, overnight figures show.

6.39m (36.1%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 169k (0.8%) on +1 as Tony dragged Callum off to the ginnel for a beating as revenge for his attack on Jason. 6.27m (31.3%) returned at 8.30pm and 239k (1.3%) on +1 as Liz broke up the violent row.

EastEnders was back up following its previous two episodes against Emmerdale, bringing in 5.56m (29.9%) at 8pm on BBC One as Shabnam and Kush were given the heartbreaking news that their baby had died. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 283k (1.7%) at 10pm.

Emmerdale attracted 5.22m (32.4%) at 7pm on ITV and 225k (1.2%) on +1 as Jai asked Kirin to sell drugs and Ross called in a favour with Lawrence.

Hollyoaks interested 694k (4.7%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as someone tampered with Diane's vitamin tablets (+1: 88k / 0.5%), while Ste and Harry's steamy scenes on E4's first look topped a quiet day for multichannels with 461k (2.9%) at 7pm and 139k (0.7%) on +1.

Neighbours appealed to 650k (9.2%) at 1.45pm and 620k (5.4%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Ben owned up to his mistake.

Doctors managed 1.1m (15.8%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Weston made a surprise appearance at Rob and Karen's house.

Home and Away aired to 231k (3.4%) at 1.15pm and 537k (3.9%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 335k (2.3%) at 6.30pm.
