Coronation Street was Friday's top-rated programme (August 14) with the latest developments in Simon and Leanne's domestic abuse plot, overnight figures show.

Corrie pulled in 6.79m (35.4%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 115k (0.5%) on +1 as Ken demanded an explanation over Simon's recent bad behaviour - the show's highest Friday rating since May 29. 6.34m (30.0%) returned at 8.30pm and 154k (0.8%) on +1 as Leanne covered for Simon by choosing not to tell Ken about his violent outbursts.

Emmerdale attracted 5.7m (32.8%) at 7pm on ITV as Jai's all-important day in court arrived (+1: 93k / 0.5%).

EastEnders interested 5.64m (28.5%) at 8pm on BBC One as Jane made plans to move away from Walford. BBC Three's repeat screening had 293k (1.7%) at 10pm.

Hollyoaks aired to 713k (4.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as abuser Pete schemed to get time alone with Cleo in dark scenes (+1: 40k / 0.2%), while E4's first look followed with 585k (3.4%) at 7pm (+1: 73k / 0.4%).

Doctors appealed to 1.36m (16.9%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as DCI Driver suffered a setback at work following the previous day's shooting.

Neighbours entertained 667k (8.2%) at 1.45pm and 624k (4.6%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Paul offered Amy a job to keep her in Erinsborough.

Home and Away grabbed 201k (2.4%) at 1.15pm and 483k (3.1%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look secured 270k (1.7%) at 6.30pm.
