Emmerdale topped the ratings with both of its dramatic episodes on Thursday evening (August 6), overnight figures show.

6.08m (34.3%) tuned in at 7pm on ITV and 220k (1.1%) on +1 as an explosion at the village hall led to a grisly death for Val Pollard and Ross Barton was killed by his brother Pete. The audience increased to 6.45m (33.3%) at 8pm and 350k (1.9%) on +1 for the emotional fallout.

EastEnders attracted 6m (32.7%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Vincent turned his attentions back to Ronnie. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 344k (2.1%) at 10pm.

Doctors interested 1.37m (20.0%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as a workplace meeting on bullying led to huge tension.

Neighbours managed 672k (9.7%) at 1.45pm and 609k (5.3%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Paul became awkward around Sheila after learning of her secret crush.

Hollyoaks was seen by 678k (4.5%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Patrick learned that his MND had progressed (+1: 58k / 0.3%), while E4's first look followed with 417k (2.4%) at 7pm (+1: 69k / 0.4%).

Home and Away continued with 231k (3.2%) at 1.15pm and 466k (3.4%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 299k (2.0%) at 6.30pm.
