Emmerdale's helicopter crash storyline continued to boost the soap on Wednesday (August 4) as the disaster claimed its first victim in heartbreaking scenes, overnight figures show.

6.59m (35.7%) tuned in at 7pm on ITV and 254k (1.2%) on +1 as Ruby Haswell was killed off in the aftermath of the crash.

Emmerdale had its best rating since March 2 with the emotional episode, while the audience share of 35.7% was the show's strongest of 2015 so far.

Coronation Street was the most-watched soap of the day, bringing in 6.82m (34.4%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 279k (1.3%) on +1 as Carla confided in Nick about her gambling problem.

Hollyoaks attracted 852k (5.1%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Nico was arrested for Carly's murder (+1: 50k / 0.3%), while E4's first look followed with 575k (3.1%) at 7pm and 114k (0.5%) on +1.

Doctors entertained 1.39m (20.4%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Zara remained under fire over her recent bullying.

Neighbours interested 581k (8.5%) at 1.45pm and 610k (4.8%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Lauren was honest with Amber about her attraction to Brad.

Home and Away appealed to 264k (3.7%) at 1.15pm and 490k (3.2%) at 6pm on Channel 5 as Brax's true fate was revealed, while 5*'s first look followed with 283k (1.7%) at 6.30pm.
