Emmerdale's helicopter crash stunt brings in 6.4m viewers

Emmerdale was Tuesday's top-rated programme (August 4) with a disastrous day for the village, overnight figures show.

6.37m (33.2%) tuned in at 7pm on ITV and 292k (1.5%) on +1 as an hour-long special saw a helicopter crash into Debbie and Pete's wedding reception at the village hall. This was the show's best rating since March 23.

EastEnders dipped to its lowest rating of the year so far due to its clash with Emmerdale and the rival soap's head start, bringing in 4.27m (20.8%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Kim dumped Vincent in the aftermath of Phil's attack on him.

During the 30-minute clash period itself from 7.30pm, Emmerdale had 6.42m (31.3%). EastEnders' BBC Three repeat screening later saw a boost as fans caught up, claiming 720k (4.1%) at 10pm.

Holby City attracted 4.01m (20.6%) at 8pm on BBC One as Mo gave Fletch an ultimatum after he confessed all.

Hollyoaks appealed to 728k (4.5%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 118k (0.6%) on +1 as Sienna and Nico tried to cover up the truth about Carly's death, while E4's first look followed with 503k (2.8%) at 7pm and 129k (0.7%) on +1.

Doctors aired to 1.45m (20.1%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Jimmi continued to give Zara a hard time following their recent tension.

Neighbours mustered 646k (8.9%) at 1.45pm and 640k (5.3%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Brad and Lauren were caught sharing an intimate moment.

Home and Away brought in 223k (3.0%) at 1.15pm and 548k (3.7%) at 6pm on Channel 5 as Brax's exit storyline continued, while 5*'s first look had 329k (2.1%) at 6.30pm.
