Coronation Street tops soap ratings on Thursday

Coronation Street stayed on top of the TV ratings yesterday (July 23) with another bonus Thursday episode, overnight figures show.

The Weatherfield soap brought in 6.16m (30.4%) at 8.30pm on ITV and 241k (1.2%) on +1 as Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding made her first appearance as Joni and Michael's love triangle with Eileen and Gail continued.

Emmerdale's dramatic double bill also did well, with 5.75m (33.3%) tuning in at 7pm on ITV and 135k (0.7%) on +1 as Robert shot Paddy when he came to Aaron's rescue. 5.73m (30.3%) returned at 8pm and 268k (1.3%) on +1 to see Aaron expose Robert's affair to a shellshocked Chrissie.

Aaron and Robert's drama gave the show its best Thursday rating since March 26. It also helped Emmerdale to score a year-on-year rise of 1.17m and 1.06m respectively compared with the equivalent double bill from 2014.

EastEnders attracted 5.56m (30.4%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Abi betrayed Max to the Mitchells in an attempt to get Ben out of trouble. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 493k (2.9%) at 10pm.

Hollyoaks appealed to 752k (4.9%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Tom and Peri reached an agreement with the Browns over their adoption plans (+1: 58k / 0.3%). E4's first look followed with 571k (3.3%) at 7pm and 114k (0.6%) on +1.

Neighbours entertained 572k (8.3%) at 1.45pm and 629k (5.1%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Imogen's interference in Josh's dodgy job left him infuriated.

Doctors continued with 1.17m (17.3%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Daniel and Zara made further progress.

Home and Away grabbed 213k (3.1%) at 1.15pm and 462k (3.2%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 289k (1.9%) at 6.30pm.
