Coronation Street claims 6.6m as Simon lashes out again

Coronation Street was Wednesday's most-watched programme (July 22) as Leanne's troubles went from bad to worse, overnight figures show.

6.59m (35.1%) tuned in at 7.30pm on ITV and 259k (1.4%) on +1 as Simon lashed out at Leanne again after hearing about her dark past.

Emmerdale attracted 5.36m (30.9%) at 7pm on ITV and 238k (1.3%) on +1 as Robert decided to hold Aaron captive following a violent showdown between the pair.

Both of the ITV soaps were up on the equivalent episode last year, with Corrie scoring an increase of 820,000 and Emmerdale rising 440,000 compared with 2014.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks achieved a rise of its own, bringing in 900k (5.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Frankie offered to pay for Peri's baby (+1: 42k / 0.2%). This was the show's best rating since June 1 and highest share since April 22.

E4's first look Hollyoaks followed with 605k (3.5%) at 7pm and 98k (0.5%) on +1.

Neighbours claimed 623k (9.1%) at 1.45pm and 626k (5.2%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Imogen's attempt to go undercover led to a frightening showdown with Forrest.

Doctors entertained 1.24m (18.1%) at 1.45pm on BBC One as Zara continued to face the consequences of her bullying behaviour.

Home and Away continued with 253k (3.5%) at 1.15pm and 559k (3.9%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 304k (1.9%) at 6.30pm.
