EastEnders grabs 5.8m viewers with latest Lucy Beale twist

EastEnders was the top-rated programme on Thursday (July 16) with another shock cliffhanger involving the Lucy Beale case, overnight figures show.

5.84m (31.8%) tuned in at 7.30pm on BBC One as DCI Marsden came knocking on Phil Mitchell's door to make an arrest after taking charge of the investigation. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 378k (2.2%) at 10pm.

Coronation Street suffered a dip with another bonus Thursday episode, attracting 5.56m (28.2%) at 8.30pm on ITV and 196k (1.0%) on +1 as Robert Preston made it clear that he wanted Tracy back.

Emmerdale wasn't far behind Corrie, bringing in 5.43m (31.4%) at 7pm on ITV and 161k (0.9%) on +1 as Moira confronted Debbie over her affair. 5.28m (28.1%) returned at 8pm and 206k (1.1%) on +1 as Debbie found herself under pressure to make a choice between Ross and Pete.

Hollyoaks interested 695k (4.6%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Esther went into labour after Kim spiked her drink to secretly induce her. Esther's storyline then boosted E4's first look to its best rating and share since May 18 as 662k (3.8%) watched at 7pm and 112k (0.6%) on +1 - the most-watched multichannel show of the day.

Neighbours entertained 582k (9.9%) at 1.45pm and 554k (4.7%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Paige heard the truth about her past.

Home and Away continued with 157k (2.5%) at 1.15pm and 479k (3.5%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 238k (1.6%) at 6.30pm.
