Coronation Street brings in 7.5m for Deirdre's funeral

Coronation Street icon Deirdre Barlow was sent off in style on Monday evening (July 13) as almost 1 million extra viewers tuned in for her emotional farewell, overnight figures show.

Corrie pulled in 7.41m (37.2%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 201k (0.9%) on +1 as Deirdre's friends and family gathered for her tearjerking funeral, while the audience increased to 7.53m (35.1%) at 8.30pm and 247k (1.2%) on +1 as the service continued and the locals moved to The Rovers for her wake.

The ITV soap was up 910k week-on-week with the tribute to the late Anne Kirkbride and her popular character.

Corrie also had its highest figures since June 1, when the show was airing the aftermath of the Victoria Court fire and explosion.

Coincidentally, EastEnders also earned its best rating since June 1 as 6.53m (31.2%) tuned in at 8pm on BBC One to see Cindy put herself in danger. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 340k (2.0%) at 10pm.

Emmerdale rose to 5.82m (31.4%) at 7pm on ITV and 153k (0.7%) on +1 as Carly found herself embroiled in Ross's criminal behaviour.

Hollyoaks grabbed 749k (4.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 114k (0.6%) on +1 as Maxine discovered Patrick's secret, while the fallout brought 533k (2.9%) to E4's first look at 7pm and 104k (0.5%) to E4+1.

Neighbours entertained 681k (10.2%) at 1.45pm and 732k (5.5%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 with the fallout from Tyler's confession.

Home and Away mustered 207k (2.8%) at 1.15pm and 565k (3.6%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 309k (1.8%) at 6.30pm.
