Deirdre death aftermath brings in 6.1m for Coronation Street

Coronation Street remained on top of the ratings on Thursday (July 9) with the aftermath of Deirdre Barlow's death, overnight figures show.

6.14m (33.4%) tuned in at 8pm on ITV and 341k (1.8%) on +1 as Leanne was concerned by Simon's indifferent reaction when she broke the heartbreaking news about his grandmother.

EastEnders attracted 5.38m (28.6%) in a later-than-usual slot of 8.30pm on BBC One as Stacey discovered that she is pregnant. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 448k (2.6%) at 10pm.

Emmerdale gathered 5.13m (30.3%) at 7pm on ITV and 208k (1.1%) on +1 as vengeful Robert put Paddy in terrible danger in an hour-long episode.

Neighbours interested 543k (8.8%) at 1.45pm and 684k (5.9%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as one of Tyler's wrongdoings was finally discovered.

Hollyoaks had 597k (4.2%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Freddie discovered that Mercedes is pregnant. E4's first look followed with 490k (3.0%) at 7pm.

Home and Away continued with 180k (2.9%) at 1.15pm and 452k (3.3%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look claimed 230k (1.6%) at 6.30pm.
