Coronation Street was Wednesday's most-watched programme (July 8) as the Barlow family's lives changed forever, overnight figures show.6.3m (32.1%) tuned in at 7.30pm on ITV and 318k (1.7%) on +1 as Bev Unwin returned with the devastating news that Deirdre had died.
The emotional storyline was written in following the real-life passing of Anne Kirkbride, who played the iconic role of Deirdre for 42 years.
Emmerdale continued with 5.31m (29.3%) at 7pm on ITV and 210k (1.2%) on +1 as Aaron and Robert reunited.
Hollyoaks attracted 725k (4.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with Pete's evil attempts to manipulate Cleo. E4's first look had 491k (2.7%) at 7pm.
Neighbours appealed to 558k (6.8%) at 1.45pm and 650k (4.9%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Daniel and Amber's relationship remained on rocky ground.
Home and Away mustered 275k (3.5%) at 1.15pm and 439k (2.9%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 215k (1.3%) at 6.30pm.
