EastEnders and Hollyoaks enjoy audience boosts on Monday

Big episodes for EastEnders and Hollyoaks boosted the ratings for both soaps on Monday evening (May 18), overnight figures show.

Fresh from its successful night at the British Soap Awards, EastEnders claimed 6.8m (31.5%) at 8pm on BBC One as the father of Linda's baby was revealed and Dot heard her fate in court - the show's best rating in seven weeks. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 363k (2.1%) at 10pm.

Hollyoaks rose up to 962k (5.7%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Mercedes continued to face a backlash following her shock return to the village.

A dramatic shooting then gave E4's first look its best figure in ten weeks with 726k (4.0%) watching at 7pm - the top-rated multichannel programme of the day.

Coronation Street remained the most-watched show of the day, bringing in 7m (35.4%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 133k (0.6%) on +1 as David and Callum went head-to-head in court. 6.72m (30.3%) returned at 8.30pm and 195k (0.9%) on +1 to see if an angry outburst from David would affect the proceedings.

Emmerdale attracted 5.71m (31.7%) at 7pm on ITV and 106k (0.5%) on +1 as Jai turned nasty with Rachel.

Neighbours entertained 730k (10.5%) at 1.45pm and 769k (5.9%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Daniel struggled to cope with Amber's confession.

Elsewhere, Doctors continued with 1.46m (21.2%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
