5.6m see Laurel's secret exposed in Thursday's Emmerdale

Emmerdale topped Thursday evening's soap ratings (April 2) with its hour-long episode, overnight figures show.

5.57m (29.7%) tuned in at 7pm on ITV as Laurel was forced to face the music when Doug revealed her drinking secret to Marlon, while 307k (1.4%) caught up on +1 an hour later.

EastEnders lost out due to its clash with Emmerdale and the rival soap's head start, bringing in 4.82m (24.1%) at 7.30pm on BBC One for Kat's latest troubles - the show's lowest audience of 2015 so far. However, BBC Three's repeat screening proved more popular than usual with 511k (3.3%) at 10.30pm.

Neighbours was Channel 5's top-rated show of the day, claiming 815k (6.3%) at 5.30pm as Nina Tucker performed at the Erinsborough Festival's closing ceremony. The lunchtime screening had 654k (10.6%) at 1.45pm.

Hollyoaks attracted 773k (4.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Tegan faced fresh heartbreak, while E4's first look had 595k (3.4%) at 7pm and 112k (0.5%) on +1.

Home and Away entertained 220k (3.5%) at 1.15pm and 571k (4.0%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look followed with 371k (2.3%) at 6.30pm.
