7.41m (32.3%) watched at 7.30pm on BBC One as Emma Summerhayes cracked the case and made a phone call to Lucy's killer. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 439k (2.7%) at 10.30pm.
Emmerdale attracted 5.83m (27.3%) at 7pm on ITV and 172k (0.8%) on +1 as Nicola told Jimmy about the tragic loss of their unborn baby.
Holby City logged its highest figure since November 11 as 4.6m (20.7%) saw Dominic's lies come back to haunt him at 8pm on BBC One.
Back in its usual 6.30pm timeslot, Hollyoaks managed 883k (4.4%) on Channel 4 with Sandy's return to the village, while a first look at the show's hour-long New Year's Eve special brought 604k (2.7%) to E4 at 7pm and 209k (0.9%) to E4+1 an hour later.
