EastEnders brings in biggest audience since April

EastEnders rose further in the ratings on Monday evening (December 29) and retained its lead over the other soaps, overnight figures show.

8.03m (32.8%) tuned in at 8pm on BBC One as Mick, Linda and the rest of the Carter family dealt with the aftermath of their dramatic Christmas. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 460k (2.8%) at 10.30pm.

EastEnders was once again the most-watched show of the day across all channels and had its highest rating since April 22, when the soap was exploring the immediate aftermath of Lucy Beale's murder.

Coronation Street attracted 7.63m (33.0%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 118k (0.5%) on +1 as Steve's spending secret was discovered, while 7.37m (29.5%) returned at 8.30pm and 145k (0.6%) on +1 as the troubled Rovers boss was forced to face the music.

Emmerdale managed its best figure of the month so far as 6.58m (30.2%) saw Nicola's tragic baby news at 7pm on ITV and 165k (0.7%) on +1.

Airing at the earlier time of 5.30pm, Hollyoaks dipped to 649k (3.7%) on Channel 4 and 139k (0.7%) on +1 as Peri blackmailed Nancy, while E4's first look followed with 411k (2.0%) at 6pm and 207k (0.9%) on +1.
