Coronation Street trial continues with 7.7m on Wednesday

Peter Barlow's murder trial continued to boost Coronation Street's ratings on Wednesday evening (October 15), overnight figures show.

The Weatherfield soap pulled in 7.72m (37.7%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 254k (1.2%) on +1 as Carla defended Peter while giving evidence at the trial, telling the court that she doesn't believe he killed Tina.

Corrie was up 760k week-on-week and had its best Wednesday rating since May 28.

Emmerdale attracted 6.51m (34.2%) at 7pm on ITV and 228k (1.1%) on +1 as Charity was shocked to discover that her captor is Jai.

Waterloo Road returned to BBC One with 3.26m (15.6%) at 8pm as new headteacher Vaughan Fitzgerald faced problems on his first day at the school.

Hollyoaks claimed 1.01m (5.6%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Theresa gave birth to Dodger's baby, while E4's first look topped the day's multichannel ratings with 959k (5.0%) at 7pm and 227k (1.1%) on +1.

Neighbours entertained 669k (10.0%) at 1.45pm and 847k (5.9%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Nate prepared to take revenge against Josh.

Home and Away mustered 333k (4.8%) at 1.15pm and 593k (3.5%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look had 412k (2.3%) at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, Doctors continued with 1.39m (21.0%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
