Phil's shooting drama tops Friday's soap ratings

EastEnders pulled ahead of Coronation Street in the soap ratings on Friday evening (October 3), overnight figures show.

7.13m (34.4%) watched at 8pm on BBC One to see the aftermath of the show's gun cliffhanger, as Phil Mitchell fought for his life after being shot by Shirley Carter. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 352k (2.4%) at 10.30pm.

Last night's episode was the first time that EastEnders has risen above the 7 million mark on a Friday since Lucy Beale's murder week in April. It was also the show's highest overall rating since June 2.

Coronation Street attracted 6.85m (35.3%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 196k (0.9%) on +1 as Kylie came face-to-face with Max's father Callum. 6.73m (32.5%) returned at 8.30pm and 234k (1.1%) on +1 as Kylie began to be drawn back into her old life.

Emmerdale interested 5.89m (33.1%) at 7pm on ITV and 151k (0.7%) on +1 as the Dingle family's troubles with Jai continued.

Hollyoaks appealed to 874k (5.3%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Finn finally faced justice with two guilty verdicts at the trial - the soap's highest Friday rating since May 2. E4's first look followed with 744k (4.2%) at 7pm.

Neighbours entertained 710k (11.2%) at 1.45pm and 770k (6.0%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 with Sheree Murphy's first appearance as feisty newcomer Dakota.

Home and Away managed 244k (3.8%) at 1.15pm and 565k (3.8%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look claimed 344k (2.1%) at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, Doctors continued with 1.31m (21.0%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
