Emmerdale rises to 6.5m with shock Macey family drama

Emmerdale topped the soap ratings on Thursday evening (September 25) with huge drama for the Macey family, overnight figures show.

6m (33.2%) tuned in at 7pm on ITV and 183k (0.9%) on +1 as Charity tried her best to escape from murderous Declan on their countryside holiday, while the audience rose to 6.47m (32.3%) at 8pm and 270k (1.3%) on +1 as Declan and Robbie's fates were left uncertain following a violent showdown out on a lake.

Emmerdale's second episode had the show's highest overall rating since June 16 and was its best performance in the 8pm slot since February 13.

Elsewhere, EastEnders bounced back from Tuesday's Emmerdale clash, bringing in 6.31m (32.9%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Barbara Windsor made a surprise return as Peggy Mitchell. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 395k (2.9%) at 10.30pm.

Hollyoaks attracted 928k (5.5%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Sonny's feud with the McQueens had shocking consequences, while E4's first look followed with 777k (4.3%) at 7pm and 132k (0.7%) on +1.

Neighbours interested 645k (10.3%) at 1.45pm and 818k (6.2%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Paige and Brennan tried to overcome their relationship problems.

Home and Away appealed to 236k (3.6%) at 1.15pm and 586k (3.9%) at 6pm on Channel 5, while 5*'s first look claimed 394k (2.4%) at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.31m (20.9%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
