Emmerdale topped the soap ratings on Tuesday evening (September 23) as Declan and Charity Macey's big storyline continued, overnight figures show.
5.71m (28.7%) watched at 7pm on ITV and 189k (0.9%) on +1 as Declan made plans to kill Charity as they stayed in a remote cottage in an hour-long episode.
Airing against Emmerdale from 7.30pm, EastEnders managed 4.74m (22.3%) on BBC One as Ben Mitchell's return led to drama on the Square. BBC Three's repeat screening later rose to its highest figure since January as 700k (5.4%) caught up at 10.30pm.
During the 30-minute clash period itself, Emmerdale had 5.57m (26.3%).
Elsewhere, Holby City attracted 3.94m (19.2%) at 8pm on BBC One with an emotional episode for Serena.
Hollyoaks claimed 934k (5.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Patrick sought help from Maxine, while E4's first look followed with 793k (4.3%) at 7pm and 116k (0.6%) on +1.
Neighbours brought in 662k (10.8%) at 1.45pm and 848k (6.2%) at 5.30pm on Channel 5 as Matt and Terese continued to struggle following recent events.
Home and Away achieved its highest lunchtime rating of the year so far with 337k (5.4%) watching Heath's exit at 1.15pm, while 581k (3.6%) tuned in at 6pm and 346k (2.0%) saw 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.28m (21.1%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
