EastEnders: 5.6m see Phil's shock discovery on Monday

EastEnders topped a relatively low-rating evening for the soaps on Monday (September 8), overnight figures show.

Airing at the earlier time of 7.30pm and against ITV's coverage of the Switzerland vs. England game, EastEnders attracted 5.56m (28.0%) on BBC One as Phil discovered that Sharon is in contact with his old enemy Marcus Christie. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 370k (2.9%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale dipped to 4.63m (26.6%) at the earlier time of 6.45pm on ITV as Charity tried her best to keep up her deception, adding 163k (0.8%) on +1.

Hollyoaks pulled in 925k (5.6%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with the latest Blake family dramas, while E4's first look followed with 754k (4.3%) at 7pm and 187k (0.9%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours interested 592k (10.1%) at 1.45pm and 818k (7.0%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away entertained 179k (2.9%) at 1.15pm, 523k (3.7%) at 6pm and 269k (1.6%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, Doctors appealed to 1.22m (21.2%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
