Emmerdale ratings boosted by Donna death aftermath

Emmerdale rose further in the ratings on Monday evening (August 18) with the continued fallout from Donna Windsor's tragic death, overnight figures show.

The show pulled in 5.95m (33.0%) at 7pm on ITV - its highest figure since June 16 - as Ross remained in turmoil and Marlon had to break the news of Donna's demise to April.

Emmerdale was neck-and-neck with EastEnders, which also had 5.95m (27.7%) at 8pm on BBC One as Ian continued his attempts to hide his dirty secret. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 274k (1.9%) at 10.30pm.

Coronation Street was the most-watched soap of the day, attracting 6.84m (35.2%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 155k (0.7%) on +1 as jailed Peter blew his chance to rebuild his relationship with Simon. The audience increased slightly to 6.85m (31.3%) at 8.30pm and 172k (0.7%) on +1 as Neil's desperation left Andrea concerned.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks topped the 1 million mark on Channel 4 for the first time since June 4, claiming 1.04m (6.2%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Peri started to rebel. E4's first look followed with 726k (4.0%) at 7pm and 123k (0.6%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Kathy's discovery of Paige's true identity in Neighbours gave the show its best lunchtime rating since January, bringing in 740k (10.3%) at 1.45pm. 761k (5.9%) caught the teatime screening at 5.30pm.

Home and Away mustered 281k (3.8%) at 1.15pm, 516k (3.3%) at 6pm and 342k (2.0%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

BBC One's Doctors continued with 1.27m (17.9%) at 1.45pm.
