Emmerdale edged ahead of EastEnders in the soap ratings with Donna Windsor's dramatic exit on Thursday evening (August 14), overnight figures show.
5.51m (30.6%) watched at 7pm on ITV and 156k (0.8%) on +1 as Aaron Livesy returned and Donna's final dodgy job with bad boy Ross began to go wrong. The audience increased to 5.83m (29.1%) at 8pm and 244k (1.2%) on +1 as Donna made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the safety of her daughter April.
EastEnders attracted 5.7m (30.6%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as the new Lucy Beale press appeal led to tensions on the Square. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 116k (5.9%) at the later time of 1.30am.
Hollyoaks claimed 875k (5.3%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with the surprise revelation that Ste and Sinead had slept together. E4's first look followed with 852k (4.7%) at 7pm and 119k (0.6%) on +1.
Over on Channel 5, Lucy Robinson's Neighbours return was seen by 575k (7.9%) at 1.45pm and 808k (6.4%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away interested 190k (2.5%) at 1.15pm, 576k (3.9%) at 6pm and 319k (1.9%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors mustered 1.26m (17.4%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
