Emmerdale topped Tuesday's soap ratings (August 5) with its emotional hour-long episode, overnight figures show.
5.43m (30.2%) watched at 7pm on ITV and 192k (1.0%) on +1 as Donna and Marlon shared a surprise kiss following the devastating news that Donna only has weeks left to live.
Despite clashing with rival soap EastEnders for its final 30 minutes, Emmerdale was up on recent episodes and achieved its best figure since July 14.
EastEnders was once again dented by Emmerdale's head start in the schedules, pulling in just 4.05m (21.3%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Ian's troubles with Rainie led to Mick being placed in an embarrassing situation. BBC Three's repeat screening later saw a boost with 561k (3.9%) watching at 10.30pm.
During the 30-minute clash period itself, Emmerdale had 5.39m (28.3%).
Elsewhere, Holby City attracted 3.93m (19.9%) at 8pm on BBC One with another tough day for Serena.
Hollyoaks grabbed 856k (5.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 107k (0.6%) on +1 as Sam and Danny had a shock car accident, while E4's first look - which revealed the fate of both characters - secured 844k (5.0%) at 7pm and 241k (1.3%) on +1.
Over on Channel 5, Neighbours bagged its best lunchtime rating since May 28 as 672k (10.1%) saw the aftermath of Daniel and Amber's secret romance being revealed at 1.45pm, while 771k (6.3%) caught the episode at 5.30pm. Home and Away managed 267k (3.8%) at 1.15pm, 585k (4.0%) at 6pm and 361k (2.3%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
Elsewhere, BBC One's Doctors continued with 1.3m (19.9%) at 1.45pm.
