Emmerdale's Donna plot continues with 5m on Tuesday

Emmerdale topped the soap ratings with its hour-long episode on Tuesday evening (July 29), but EastEnders wasn't far behind despite its move to BBC Two, overnight figures show.

Emmerdale brought in 5m (28.1%) at 7pm on ITV and 156k (0.8%) on +1 as Donna placed herself and April in danger by trying to fight back against the villainous Gary North.

EastEnders rose further on BBC Two as 4.88m (24.6%) tuned in at 8pm for the aftermath of Carol's discovery that Nick is still alive. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 414k (2.7%) at 10.30pm.

Airing after EastEnders on BBC Two, the latest Holby City episode entertained 3.41m (16.6%) at 8.30pm.

Hollyoaks claimed 726k (4.6%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 124k (0.7%) on +1 as Maxine's attempt to escape from Patrick failed, while the shocking developments on the couple's wedding day brought 736k (4.2%) to E4's first look at 7pm and 213k (1.1%) to E4+1 an hour later.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours mustered 458k (6.5%) at 1.45pm and 601k (4.9%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away managed 132k (1.8%) at 1.15pm, 504k (3.5%) at 6pm and 295k (1.9%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
