Coronation Street tops Friday soap ratings with Gary's story

Coronation Street remained on top of the soap ratings on Friday evening (June 27) with the aftermath of Gary's infidelity, overnight figures show.

6.23m (32.6%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 169k (0.8%) on +1 as Gary was shocked to realise that he had cheated on Izzy with Kal's daughter. With the second episode clashing with EastEnders for 20 minutes, 5.78m (27.0%) returned to Corrie at 8.30pm and 383k (1.9%) on +1 as Gary begged Alya to keep quiet about his big mistake.

Emmerdale attracted 4.97m (28.6%) at 7pm on ITV as Adam struggled to cope with the news that James is his real father. Unusually, the soap later held onto its entire audience as 4.97m (24.6%) also returned at 8pm and 303k (1.5%) on +1 as the fallout continued for the Barton family.

Pushed back to 8.20pm due to BBC One's coverage of Andy Murray at Wimbledon, EastEnders dipped to 4.3m (20.3%) as Stan tried to make Linda see sense over her recent behaviour. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 534k (3.4%) at 10.30pm.

Hollyoaks interested 751k (4.7%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Andrew Moss made a surprise return as 'Rhys' as part of Cindy's bipolar storyline. E4's first look followed with 622k (3.6%) at 7pm and 103k (0.5%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 572k (8.6%) at 1.45pm and 705k (5.7%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away managed 215k (3.1%) at 1.15pm, 505k (3.5%) at 6pm and 321k (2.0%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
