EastEnders topped the soap ratings on Thursday

EastEnders was Thursday's top-rated soap (May 1) as the Beale family faced further heartbreak, overnight figures show.

7.22m (35.8%) watched at 7.30pm on BBC One as Lucy's family learned that her death was murder rather than a random mugging that went wrong. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 465k (3.2%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale pulled in 6.13m (32.6%) at 7pm on ITV and 117k (0.5%) on +1 as Donna told Rhona about her illness after receiving an upsetting prognosis. 5.85m (26.4%) returned at 8pm and 250k (1.2%) on +1 for Rhona's reaction to the news.

Hollyoaks attracted 952k (5.4%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Patrick came up with a twisted plan to cover his tracks, while E4's first look followed with 715k (3.8%) at 7pm and 124k (0.6%) on +1.

On Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 636k (9.3%) at 1.45pm but dipped to 674k (5.0%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away gathered 231k (3.4%) at 1.15pm, 677k (4.3%) at 6pm and 412k (2.3%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, Doctors continued with 1.3m (19.2%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
