Coronation Street was ahead in the midweek soap ratings...

Coronation Street topped the midweek soap ratings (April 9) as Phelan and Anna's indecent proposal storyline began, overnight figures show.

7.22m (34.8%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 227k (1.0%) on +1 as sleazy Phelan promised to release Gary and Owen from their contract if Anna slept with him.

Emmerdale attracted 6.26m (33.7%) at 7pm on ITV and 198k (0.9%) on +1 as Cain tried his best to help Belle.

Hollyoaks was Channel 4's most-watched show of the day with 1.01m (6.0%) at 6.30pm as Grace was arrested in the continued fallout from Joe's reappearance, while the first look airing was also E4's top show with 768k (4.1%) at 7pm and 162k (0.7%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours interested 558k (9.0%) at 1.45pm and 741k (5.7%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away appealed to 178k (2.7%) at 1.15pm, 585k (3.8%) at 6pm and 354k (2.1%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors had 1.37m (22.5%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
