Coronation Street brought in 9.7 million viewers with Hayley Cropper's tragic exit on Monday evening (January 20), overnight figures show.

The night's first visit to Weatherfield, which saw Hayley's final day arrive, attracted 9.6m (40.5%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 193k (0.8%) on +1.

Corrie's audience increased to 9.72m (38.7%) at 8.30pm and 350k (1.4%) on +1 as terminally-ill Hayley ended her own life with husband Roy by her side.

EastEnders, meanwhile, appealed to 7.66m (31.2%) at 8pm on BBC One as Jake and Lauren's affair was exposed. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 399k (2.6%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale entertained 7.46m (34.4%) at 7pm on ITV and 147k (0.6%) on +1 with more fallout from Rachel's disappearing act.

Hollyoaks had 1.22m (5.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 111k (0.5%) on +1 with the continuing aftermath of the wrecking ball stunt, while E4's first look followed with 779k (3.6%) at 7pm and 206k (0.8%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours grabbed 766k (10.7%) at 1.45pm and 928k (5.5%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away managed 243k (3.3%) at 1.15pm, 669k (3.4%) at 6pm and 508k (2.4%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.73m (24.3%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
