Coronation Street remained on top of the soap ratings on Wednesday evening (January 15), overnight figures show.

The midweek visit to Weatherfield pulled in 7.76m (35.5%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 265k (1.1%) on +1 as Stella sparked tensions by suggesting that Nick and Leanne needed more time apart.

Emmerdale attracted 6.78m (32.7%) at 7pm on ITV with the build-up to Rachel's exit, adding 156k (0.7%) on +1.

EastEnders suffered a dip outside of its usual schedule as 6.67m (28.7%) saw Carol confide in Sonia about her turbulent few weeks in another extra Wednesday episode at 8pm. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 343k (3.5%) at 11pm.

Airing after EastEnders, Waterloo Road continued with 3.33m (14.4%) at 8.30pm on BBC One as Carol bonded with George following a difficult day.

Hollyoaks entertained 1.16m (5.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with the drama on Freddie and Sinead's wedding day, while E4's first look was the most-watched multichannel programme of the day with 866k (4.2%) at 7pm.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours grabbed 669k (9.0%) at 1.45pm and 889k (5.5%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away mustered 263k (3.4%) at 1.15pm, 640k (3.4%) at 6pm and 376k (1.9%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.59m (21.5%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
