8.92m (38.3%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 217k (0.9%) on +1 as Peter missed a business meeting to spend time with Tina, while 8.91m (35.5%) returned at 8.30pm and 197k (0.8%) on +1 as Tina promised to stay in Weatherfield if Peter told Carla the truth about them.
EastEnders appealed to 7.9m (32.1%) at 8pm on BBC One as Jane Beale made a shock return to Walford. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 494k (3.2%) at 10.30pm.
Emmerdale interested 7.45m (33.2%) at 7pm on ITV as worrying news from an old flame left Val shaken, adding 174k (0.7%) on +1.
Hollyoaks entertained 1.25m (5.9%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 102k (0.4%) on +1 as Sonny Valentine returned to the village, while E4's first look was the most-watched multichannel programme of the day with 780k (3.5%) at 7pm and 177k (0.7%) on +1.
Over on Channel 5, Neighbours returned with 702k (8.9%) at 1.45pm and 796k (4.5%) at 5.30pm with the fallout from Kate and Kyle's secret being exposed.
Elsewhere, Doctors kicked off the year with 1.59m (20.3%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
