Emmerdale topped Monday evening's soap ratings (December 9) as EastEnders was dented by the Royal Variety Performance, overnight figures show.
6.83m (33.2%) tuned in to Emmerdale at 7pm on ITV and 141k (0.6%) on +1 as Cain decided to have some time apart from Moira.
Airing against the Royal Variety, EastEnders managed 5.53m (22.7%) at 8pm on BBC One as Phil took revenge against Alfie. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 584k (3.9%) at 10.30pm.
Hollyoaks attracted 1.11m (5.6%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with the latest developments in the Patrick and Maxine story, while E4's first look had 649k (3.2%) at 7pm and 126k (0.5%) on +1.
Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 666k (10.8%) at 1.45pm and 916k (5.8%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away appealed to 211k (3.3%) at 1.15pm, 670k (3.7%) at 6pm and 415k (2.1%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.28m (20.9%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
