Coronation Street and Emmerdale both performed well with their hour-long specials on Wednesday evening (October 16), overnight figures show.
The latest visit to Weatherfield, which saw the Platt family's secrets exposed at Lily's christening, brought in 9.2m (39.2%) at 8pm on ITV and 440k (2.0%) on +1.
Emmerdale soared to 8.13m (38.5%) at 7pm and 244k (1.0%) on +1 as Alicia was shot at The Woolpack.
Hollyoaks entertained 1.01m (5.3%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with the aftermath of the explosion, while E4's first look was the most-watched multichannel programme of the day with 887k (4.3%) at 7pm and 129k (0.6%) on +1.
Over on Channel 5, the reveal of Robbo's killer in Neighbours was seen by 888k (11.6%) at 1.45pm and 841k (5.7%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away managed 291k (3.6%) at 1.15pm, 651k (3.8%) at 6pm and 408k (2.1%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.37m (18.0%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
