Emmerdale's double bill topped Thursday's soap ratings

Emmerdale topped Thursday evening's soap ratings (August 22) with Declan's arrest, overnight figures show.

5.88m (33.0%) tuned in at 7pm on ITV and 169k (0.8%) on +1 as Declan faced the consequences of his big cover-up, while the audience increased to 6.15m (30.2%) at 8pm and 355k (1.7%) on +1 as the Home Farm boss faced financial ruin.

EastEnders attracted 5.81m (30.5%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Shirley decided to blackmail Phil. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 442k (2.9%) at 10.30pm.

Hollyoaks managed 733k (4.7%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Browning's sinister attentions turned to Cindy. E4's first look had 537k (3.0%) at 7pm.

Over on Channel 5, the ongoing Kate story in Neighbours was seen by 644k (9.8%) at 1.45pm and 723k (6.0%) at 5.30pm. On 5*, another classic airing of Home and Away interested 64k (0.4%) at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, Doctors entertained 1.41m (21.4%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
