'Coronation Street' is Friday's most-watched soap

Coronation Street was Friday evening's top-rated soap (August 9) as the aftermath of Nick and David's crash continued, overnight figures show.

7.59m (40.5%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 286k (1.4%) on +1 as David's apology to an unconscious Nick was overheard by Tina, while 7.28m (34.3%) returned at 8.30pm and 430k (2.1%) on +1 as David was questioned by the police.

Emmerdale interested 6.02m (35.0%) at 7pm on ITV as Amy told Cain the tragic news about Kyle's adoptive parents, adding 285k (1.5%) on +1.

EastEnders claimed 5.99m (30.8%) at 8pm on BBC One with more drama between Michael and Janine. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 436k (2.9%) at 10.30pm.

Hollyoaks brought in 905k (5.9%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Jim's betrayal was revealed, while E4's first look had 534k (3.1%) at 7pm.

Over on Channel 5, Ajay and Rani's final Neighbours episode was seen by 579k (8.3%) at 1.45pm and 724k (6.2%) at 5.30pm, while classic airings of Home and Away on 5* continued with 74k (0.5%) at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest edition of Doctors mustered 1.14m (16.3%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
