Coronation Street has strong night in Monday's soap ratings

Coronation Street soared above the 8 million mark on Monday evening (August 5) with Nick and David's road crash storyline, overnight figures show.

8.57m (41.4%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 195k (0.9%) on +1 as Nick tackled David over his recent vendetta, while the audience increased to 8.65m (37.9%) at 8.30pm and 268k (1.2%) on +1 as David's extreme reaction had terrible consequences.

Emmerdale brought in 6.89m (35.6%) at 7pm on ITV as Rhona had to be rushed to hospital, adding 155k (0.7%) on +1.

EastEnders managed 6.72m (30.6%) at 8pm on BBC One as Carl tried to come between Max and Kirsty. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 436k (2.8%) at 10.30pm.

Hollyoaks claimed 1.14m (6.5%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as the Ste and Pauline story came to a head, while E4's first look had 578k (3.0%) at 7pm and 156k (0.7%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 648k (8.1%) at 1.45pm and 951k (7.2%) at 5.30pm as Chris discovered Hudson's dangerous secret. On 5*, the first 'Summer Bay's Sexiest' classic airing of Home and Away mustered 137k (0.8%) at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.3m (16.5%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
