EastEnders was Thursday's most-watched soap

EastEnders topped Thursday's (July 4) soap ratings with the accident at Ian Beale's restaurant, overnight figures show.

6.39m (34.2%) watched at 7.30pm on BBC One as Shirley, Bianca and Jean caused a fire and a flood at Ian's business. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 434k (2.8%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale interested 6.11m (35.0%) at 7pm on ITV and 149k (0.7%) on +1 with Cameron and Debbie giving into temptation, while 5.86m (29.1%) returned at 8pm and 353k (1.8%) on +1 to see Debbie's attempt to flee with the kids.

Waterloo Road brought in 2.78m (13.8%) at 8pm on BBC One with Tom Clarkson's dramatic exit episode.

Hollyoaks grabbed 771k (4.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 118k (0.6%) on +1 with the McQueen family's scheme to fool Trevor, while E4's first look had 540k (3.1%) at 7pm and 128k (0.6%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 609k (9.1%) at 1.45pm and 800k (6.3%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away mustered 242k (3.5%) at 1.15pm, 635k (4.3%) at 6pm and 435k (2.7%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
