Emmerdale tops Thursday evening's soap ratings

Emmerdale was Thursday evening's (April 18) most-watched soap as it came out on top in its clash with EastEnders, overnight figures show.

Benefiting from a 30-minute head-start over its Walford rival, Emmerdale's hour-long episode - which saw Moira suffer a miscarriage - averaged 6.27m (30.5%) from 7pm on ITV. 412k watched an hour later (1.9%) on +1.

EastEnders attracted 5.5m (25.2%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Janine returned to Albert Square. BBC Three's repeat screening later saw a boost as 713k (4.8%) tuned in at 10.30pm.

During the 30-minute clash period itself, Emmerdale had 6.01m (27.7%).

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks managed 906k (5.0%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Jacqui's exit week continued, while E4's first look had 650k (3.4%) at 7pm and 195k (0.9%) on +1.

On Channel 5, Neighbours brought in 871k (12.6%) at 1.45pm and 967k (6.6%) at 5.30pm with more aftermath of the explosion, while Home and Away entertained 314k (4.4%) at 1.15pm, 749k (4.4%) at 6pm and 500k (2.8%) with 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.45m (21.2%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
