'Neighbours' 10pm explosion special brings in 1.2m

Neighbours topped the 1 million mark with its prime-time screening on Tuesday night (April 16), overnight figures show.

1.22m (7.0%) tuned in at 10pm on Channel 5 for the special hour-long edition, which focused on a tragic explosion at Toadie and Sonya's wedding. Channel 5 beat BBC Two and Channel 4 in the slot.

The late-night showing of Neighbours was designed to hook in new and returning viewers, offering another chance to see the wedding day disaster and a first look at the next episode.

In a strong day for the Australian show, 908k (13.2%) also saw the explosion at 1.45pm and 1.12m (7.7%) at 5.30pm.

EastEnders was the most-watched soap of the day, pulling in 7.58m (37.3%) at 8pm on BBC One as Lauren told Tanya about Kirsty's 'pregnancy'. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 485k (3.2%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale interested 6.19m (32.4%) at 7pm on ITV and 224k (1.0%) on +1 as Brenda changed her mind about having surgery.

Holby City appealed to 4.74m (21.5%) at 8pm on BBC One with Tara's final episode.

Hollyoaks managed 880k (5.0%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Jacqui embarked on her plan to save Mercedes, while E4's first look had 610k (3.2%) at 7pm and 112k (0.5%) on +1.

Elsewhere, Doctors was seen by 1.51m (22.2%) at 1.45pm on BBC One, while Channel 5's Home and Away brought in 326k (4.5%) at 1.15pm, 742k (4.4%) at 6pm and 519k (2.9%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
