Coronation Street topped Monday evening's soap ratings

Coronation Street topped the 9 million mark on Monday evening (April 8) with the latest drama for Eileen and Paul, overnight figures show.

9.15m (39.4%) watched at 7.30pm on ITV and 176k (0.7%) on +1 as Eileen betrayed Paul's trust with a secret visit to the fire station manager. However, the night's second visit to Weatherfield was less popular as 8.37m (32.8%) tuned in at 8.30pm and 200k (0.8%) on +1 to see the pair's romance hit the rocks.

EastEnders managed 7.74m (31.3%) at 8pm on BBC One as Sharon and Phil shared another kiss, while BBC Three's repeat screening secured 519k (3.2%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale appealed to 6.93m (32.5%) at 7pm on ITV as Thomas made his departure from the village, adding 140k (0.6%) on +1.

Hollyoaks interested 840k (4.2%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as Clare's games continued, while E4's first look had 585k (2.7%) at 7pm.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 695k (8.8%) at 1.45pm and 1.01m (6.5%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away grabbed 257k (3.1%) at 1.15pm, 840k (4.6%) at 6pm and 553k (2.8%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.42m (18.4%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
