EastEnders was Tuesday evening's (December 18) most-watched soap as Alfie made an attempt to find out the truth about Kat's affair.

Overnight figures show that BBC One's 7.30pm visit to Albert Square pulled in 7.64 million, a 34.6% share of the available audience. BBC Three's catchup found 639,000 (4.2%) at 10.30pm.

After EastEnders on BBC One, 5.08m (22.5%) stayed for a festive edition of Holby City, titled 'Through the Darkness'. The medical drama will be off air next week due to Tuesday being Christmas Day.

Earlier in the day, 1.45pm's instalment of Doctors, entitled 'Elephant in the Room', drew 1.37m (19.8%) - benefiting from not clashing with Neighbours, which is on a Christmas break.

Over on ITV1, Emmerdale logged 7.11m (32.5%) as Chas Dingle's trial began at 7pm, adding 175k on +1.

Channel 4's 6.30pm screening of Hollyoaks could only muster 962k (4.7%), but E4's first look grabbed a decent 601k (2.8%) half-an-hour later.
