'EastEnders' clings on to 'Emmerdale' lead on Friday

EastEnders managed to edge Emmerdale by the narrowest of margins in Friday's soap ratings battle.

The Albert Square soap's final episode of the week, which saw Alfie grow even more suspicious of his cheating wife Kat, drew 7.16m (a 31.7% share) at 8pm, while BBC Three's 10.30pm repeat logged 378,000 (2.2%).

Declan's plea to Megan in Emmerdale attracted 7.14m (34.4%) at 7pm, adding 124k on ITV1 +1.

Meanwhile, 457k (10.2%) caught midnight's EastEnders Omnibus on BBC One.

Coronation Street was the most-watched serial with 8.17m (37.4%) at 7.30pm (+1: 135k) and 8.04m (34.5%) at 8.30pm (+1: 142k) for a comical double bill featuring lollipop man Dennis Tanner's feud with Steve McDonald.

Elsewhere, Channel 4's 6.30pm edition of Hollyoaks nabbed 923k (5.4%) and E4's first look had a decent 534k (2.5%), while Doctors averaged 1.34m (18.8%) earlier in the day.

Neighbours appealed to 579k (8%) and 1.06m (6.3%) for its latest instalment, while Home and Away picked up 703k (3.6%) and 505k (2.4%) for 5*'s first look.
