Emmerdale was Monday evening's (December 3) most-watched soap as EastEnders struggled against The Royal Variety Performance, overnight figures show.
Emmerdale brought 7.63m (35.8%) to ITV1 at 7pm and 135k (0.5%) to ITV+1 as Brett shocked Rhona by making a move on her at work.
EastEnders, meanwhile, pulled in 6.42m (24.9%) at 8pm on BBC One as Shirley made an unexpected return to Walford. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 649k (4.1%) at 10.30pm.
Hollyoaks attracted 1.04m (5.0%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 132k (0.6%) on +1 as Mercedes's trial began, while E4's first look had 523k (2.5%) at 7pm and 120k (0.5%) an hour later.
Over on Channel 5, Neighbours grabbed 734k (10.0%) at 1.45pm and 1.03m (6.0%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away mustered 800k (4.1%) at 6pm and 594k (2.9%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.
Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.42m (19.4%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
