Mineshaft-bound Katie Macey's ever-weakening fight for survival has bolstered the show's numbers to 7.53 million (36.4%) at 7pm and 7.43m (31.7%) an hour later at 8pm (+1: 185k).

EastEnders, meanwhile, attracted 7.1m (33.6%) to BBC One at 7.30pm for an episode which saw Kat's mystery lover leave her a message at the bedsit. BBC Three's 10.30pm repeat grabbed 460k (3%).

With the rival shows sharing the Thursday soap ratings crown in recent weeks, the momentum now rests with Emmerdale and ITV.

Elsewhere yesterday, Hollyoaks managed 945k (4.7%) and 394k (1.9%) for E4's first look, while Doctors took 1.27m (19.1%) at 1.45pm.

At the same time as the BBC One medical serial, Neighbours appealed to 679k (10.1%) on Channel 5, while 966k (6%) watched in the more familiar 5.30pm slot.

Home and Away followed on 5 with 784k (3.1%), after which 5*'s first look nabbed 507k (2.5%).
