Maddie's attempt to kiss Jono ahead of his wedding to Ruby was seen by 554,000 - a 2.6% share - on the digital channel.

Channel 4's normal edition, which focused on the lead-up to Tony and Cindy's wedding, logged 964k (4.8%) at 6.30pm.

Emmerdale climbed to an impressive 7.26 million (34.6%) at 7pm, snatching an unlikely victory over EastEnders which could only muster 6.82m (30.2%) on BBC One an hour later.

ITV1 +1 added 162k for the rural soap, while 520k (3.1%) watched 10.30pm's Albert Square catchup on BBC Three. Back on BBC One, the weekly EastEnders Omnibus attracted 339k (7.4%) from midnight.

Coronation Street predictably topped the soap ratings with its Marcus and Maria-centred double bill - some 8.24m (37.6%) watched the first edition at 7.30pm (+1: 196k), while 7.83m (33.7%) returned at 8.30pm (+1: 294k).

Elsewhere, the latest instalment of Neighbours on Channel 5 drew 720k (9.3%) at 1.45pm and 944k (5.7%) at 5.30pm. Home and Away followed at 6pm with 731k (3.9%), after which 5*'s first look grabbed 427k (2.1%).

Meanwhile, Doctors averaged an impressive 1.63m (21.1%) for the story 'Remember Them'.
