Emmerdale's fourth and final 40th anniversary retrospective drew a fairly modest audience last night (Thursday, November 8).
Only 3.32 million (14%) stuck around for the special programme, narrated by Gaynor Faye, which peaked with 3.7m in its first week.
Emmerdale at 40 hasn't been able to take advantage of its lead-in from the rural soap's double bill, which this week lost viewers - Gennie exposing Katie's deception was seen by 7.06m (32.8%) in its usual 7pm slot, and Katie and Declan's problems attracted 6.47m (27.3%) at 8pm (+1: 187,000).
EastEnders topped the soap ratings with 7.4m (33.1%) for a Syed-centred episode at 7.30pm, while BBC Three's 10.30pm repeat logged 347k (2.3%).
Elsewhere, Hollyoaks drew 827k (4%) for Channel 4 (+1: 106k) and 529k (2.5%) for E4's first look, while Doctors averaged 1.35m (19.1%) for its latest instalment 'Faking It'.
Five's latest screening of Neighbours appealed to 637k (9%) and 959k (5.8%) at 5.30pm, after which Home and Away grabbed 699k (3.7%) and 452k (2.2%) for 5*'s first look.
