EastEnders put in another solid performance on BBC Two on Tuesday evening (July 31) as Ian Beale made his return to screens, overnight figures show.
The Walford soap, shifted from BBC One for a fortnight due to Olympics coverage, pulled in 5.52m (24.3%) at 7.30pm as Lauren spotted Ian at a hostel for the homeless. Later, BBC Three's repeat screening secured 635k (5.3%) at 11pm.
Also on BBC Two, Holby City entertained 3.74m (15.4%) at 8pm with an episode titled 'Breathless'.
Emmerdale was the most-watched soap of the day on first-run showings, attracting 5.58m (26.9%) at 7pm as Alex tried to kiss Moira.
Hollyoaks, meanwhile, managed 743k (3.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with the latest developments for Mercedes. E4's first look had 405k (2.0%) at 7pm.
Over on Channel 5, Neighbours mustered 572k (6.1%) at 1.45pm and 826k (5.1%) at 5.30pm.
Elsewhere, as 'Home and Away: From Day One' continued on 5*, 'The One About Bobby's Mum' was seen by 216k (1.2%) at 6pm and 'The One With Dannii Minogue' took 248k (1.3%) at 6.30pm.
