EastEnders: 'No plans for Windsor return'

EastEnders producers today denied that Barbara Windsor has entered into discussions for a return to the soap in 2012.

The 72-year-old, who has played Queen Vic landlady Peggy Mitchell for over 15 years, announced her decision to quit the BBC soap in October to spend more time with her husband Scott Mitchell.

Windsor is due to bow out of the show at some point this year but despite the fact that she has yet to finish filming, a Sunday tabloid today claims that the soap icon has already begun arranging a return in two years' time.

However, an EastEnders spokesperson told Digital Spy "Barbara is due to leave EastEnders later this year and there are no current plans for her to return to the Square."

A show insider said: "Barbara's exit is currently being planned by EastEnders bosses and the details are being kept firmly under wraps."

They added: "At this stage, no one knows how Peggy will leave the Square but, in keeping with her character, it's set to be explosive."
