Thursday ratings: 'Emmerdale' Cain attack seen by 8.4m

Emmerdale soared past the 8m mark on Thursday night as Cain Dingle finally got his comeuppance, overnight figures show.

Emmerdale pulled in 8.42m (34.2%) at 8pm and 259k (1.1%) on +1 as one of Cain's enemies brutally attacked him. Meanwhile, the show's first outing of the evening - which featured the build-up to the incident - entertained 7.83m (35.0%) at 7pm and 145k (0.6%) on timeshift.

EastEnders, meanwhile, had 8.57m (37.1%) at 7.30pm for Zainab and Yusef's wedding day. BBC Three's 10pm repeat screening added 759k (3.8%).

Coronation Street interested 8.03m (31.8%) at 8.30pm and 224k (0.9%) on +1 as it aired an episode focusing entirely on Peter Barlow.

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks managed 984k (4.5%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 115k (0.5%) on timeshift, while E4's first look was seen by 521k (2.3%) at 7pm.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours appealed to 639k (7.9%) at 1.45pm and 1.35m (7.8%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away mustered 804k (4.0%) at 6pm and 509k (2.3%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Doctors' latest episode - titled 'By Hook Or By Crook' - took 1.86m (23.0%) at lunchtime.
